演讲摘要:
When I ask myself what would happen if a man who stands at the edge of the universe threw a spear, or what I would do if I had a ring that makes me invisible, I make a thought experiment. But what is thought experimenting? In my talk, I shall begin by recalling some thought experiments. Then I shall characterize thought experiments in general. Finally, I will take a stand in the debate between James Robert Brown, who maintains that thought experimenting is experiencing another world, and John Norton, who argues that thought experiment is dealing with an argument presented under the disguise of a pleasant story.
